Series 4 / Japan / Japan / Multispecies

Join Kathryn in yet another journey to learn about the food, culture and fishing in Japan. In Gifu City, Kathryn fished along side the master Commarant fisherman, called Usho. Some of the most exciting fishing she has ever experienced. With twelve birds in tow and fire ablaze, they floated down the ancient river, called Nagara, while exploiting the exemplary fishing skills of the oily feathered Commarants. The Kangare, an iron basket that holds wood is set ablaze to guide the way and awaken the sleeping fish. The light lures the fish to the surface whereby the Commarants swiftly scoop them up eagerly like a dog to a bone.
